For most pool owners, putting in chlorine and removing some floating debris above the pool water may be the core activities that are associated with pool care. While this is respectably efficient, there are other ways by which one can maintain cleanliness and protect your pool’s integrity and enjoy its beauty for a longer period of time and reduce some unnecessary damage.

The following are tips on how to keep your pools free from unnecessary pollutants and damage.

  • Chlorination and Filtration – Chlorination is always the best way to clean water. It crystallizes your water like no other and disinfects it. Filters, on the other hand, traps macroscopic debris which can cause irremovable stains and corrosions.
  • Free metals - Free metals which usually cause staining on tile surfaces is one of the major problems among pool owners. Although free metals are present in source water, it is always advised that there is virtually 0 ppm for such metals. Calcium deposits may also hinder some problem. Calcium can clog filters and could cause cloudiness of water if present in very high amount. Your local pool cleaner may inform you of possible options in cleaning your pools with these stains.
  • Checking pH Balance – pH measures the pool water’s basicity or acidity. pH ranges from 0 to 14 where 7 indicates neutral. pH of your Pool water should be maintained within the range of 7.2 to 7.8. One particular problem that would arise when water is too basic is scaling. Otherwise, if the water is to acidic, it becomes corrosive.
  • Oxidizers – Apart from chlorination, the use of oxidizer allows disinfecting other micro organisms that are responsive to it. Cosmetics, urine, including perspiration that are continuously polluting the pool water, oxidizers neutralizes them and contributes to maintaining pool’s cleanliness.
  • Maintaining Housekeeping – Following housekeeping rules is always the best defence against the aforementioned damages. Vacuuming and brushing may be done on a weekly basis and running your pool filters daily and regular backwashing can help prevent damages caused by corrosive debris
